WHAT: With support from the National Science Foundation, the Extended Physics Community (EPC) project implemented a statewide comprehensive professional development program for teachers of physics, physical science, and principles of technology, based on the modeling theory of instruction originated at Arizona State University.

WHAT NEXT:  EPCQuiz, an assessment tool and database designed with modeling teachers in mind.

NSF funding for the EPC workshop program has expired.  However, the EPC assessment database project is ongoing.  As part of its contribution to promoting modeling efforts and supporting the modeling community, the EPC project has developed an assessment tool to interface with the EPC assessment database developed in part by EPC workshop participants.   Access to the beta version of the EPC assessment database using this quiz tool, is currently available to Modeling teachers.

The EPC quiz tool, currently named EPCQuiz, is designed to meet the needs of teachers and faculty who employ modeling pedagogy.  In addition to traditional evaluation items such as mutliple choice, multiple select, essay, and numerical fillin, the new tool includes ranking questions, a vector grader, qualitative graph grader, and motion map grader.  Modeling teachers who wish to use a version of the EPCQuiz free of charge will be asked to contribute back to the modeling community by adding to and editing assessment items in the EPC assessment database.

Please contact Project Director Meisner if you have questions, wish to beta test EPCQuiz, or wish to assist in completing this valuable tool.
